Standards

Editorial policy

How we source, cite, price and correct — and the lines we won't cross.

These are the standards every page on Burr & Basket is held to. They exist so you can trust the recommendations, and so we can be held accountable when we fall short. Our step-by-step selection process lives on the methodology page; this page is about sourcing, accuracy and independence.

Independence

We are editorially independent. We sell no products and hold no inventory, so our picks are never the thing we need to move this quarter. Manufacturers and retailers have no say in what we recommend, how we rank it, or what we say about it. Affiliate commissions fund the site (see our affiliate disclosure) but never influence a verdict.

Sourcing and citation

  • Specificationscome from the manufacturer's own documentation — product pages, manuals and spec sheets — and we cite the source. Where a secondary source disagrees with the manufacturer, the manufacturer wins.
  • Facts and figures(pressure, grind ranges, caffeine, brewing standards) are attributed to reputable sources, and every guide carries a "Sources" section.
  • We link to primary sources over blog restatements wherever possible.

Prices

We never hand-type or estimate a price. Displayed prices are pulled from Amazon's live data feed, stamped with an "as of" date, and hidden once they age past about 48 hours. The price on the retailer's page at checkout is authoritative.

What we will never do

  • Invent specifications, prices, ratings, review counts, awards, or customer testimonials.
  • Claim we lab-tested gear we haven't. We don't run a test lab, and we say so.
  • Claim credentials we don't hold, or imply a staff or "expert panel" that doesn't exist.
  • Accept payment to include, rank, or praise a product.

Testing and hands-on claims

Our reviews are built from compiled published specifications, verified owner feedback and reasoning — not lab testing. Where we have genuine first-hand familiarity with common, widely owned gear, we say so plainly and keep it personal; we never generalize it into a testing program we haven't run.

Corrections

We fix errors quickly and openly. If you find a wrong spec, a stale price or a broken link, tell us— we especially want to hear about factual mistakes, and we'll correct them and update the page's "last reviewed" date.

Updates

Roundups are reviewed roughly every three months, comparisons and guides every six to twelve months or when a major model refresh ships. Each page shows when it was last updated. Burr & Basket is published by Type 5 Marketing LLC.
